Patrick Mahomes was predicted by most people not to be an outstanding, NFL quarterback. For example, one ESPN analyst had predicted early on that Mahomes would be a 2nd or 3rd round pick. The 2nd overall pick in the first round of the 2017 draft was Mitchell Trubisky, who is now the backup quarterback for the Buffalo Bills. Ultimately, the Kansas City Chiefs saw great upside in the young Mahomes and drafted him in 2017 in the first round as the 10th overall draft pick. Mahomes didn’t follow the trajectory that most had predicted his career would go. The lesson in this is not to let others determine your future.

People will always have opinions and predictions, but we have the ultimate choice of how we want to play the cards we are dealt. It seems that Mahomes just took what others said with a grain of salt. We too, can choose not to let others decide what our future will be.
Perhaps one of the questions we can begin with is what are you really looking for in life? We have the choice that begins today of which path we want to forge.

Thanks for sharing. So very true!
Glad you got something out of it.
Hi Nick,
Good story and thank you for posting it!
Yep, very true. It’s your decision to make when you get up in the morning. Will it be a great day, a so-so day or a crummy day? You decide it every single day–no one but you!
Dwight, good point. That connects well to the analogy of life being like playing the cards you are dealt I mentioned in the blog post. We can choose how to play the cards we are given.
